Green light for the consortium to create the healthcare campus

The Campus de Salut Clínic - Universitat de Barcelona will be a healthcare and science hub of more than 300,000 square metres with facilities and community spaces. The eight administrations making up the consortium that will coordinate the project must ratify its constitution, which should be next year, with work to begin from 2030.

The joint monitoring commission for the project have drafted the statutes of the future Port Diagonal – Campus Clínic consortium, which will have three bodies: a general board, an executive committee and the general directorate.

The goals for this governance tool are to:

  • Execute the work needed to make the new campus a reality.
  • Control the tendering of projects and operational management.
  • Act as a technical, operational and management office.

The administrations in question are the Government of Catalonia, the Barcelona Hospital Clínic Consortium, the University of Barcelona, the city councils of Barcelona, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona Provincial Council and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area.

All of them will have to approve the statutes for the new consortium, which should be constituted next year.

Healthcare and science hub

The future campus will include the enlargement of the Hospital Clínic, the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Barcelona, healthcare facilities, university facilities, science and research facilities, community spaces and the connection with the L3 metro line, which will be extended to connect with this area.

The design of the new campus will be defined through an international project competition, to be launched at the end of 2026.

The people heading the four selected projects from the master’s in hospital architecture as an inspiration for the future campus will take part in the process to draft the conditions for the international competition.
