The most notable points in the report show that:

  • Barcelona’s GDP grew by 3.2% year on year in the first quarter of 2025, above the EU average (+1.6%) and in line with Catalonia (+3.4%).
  • Disposable household income increased by 4.5% compared to the previous year, reaching 7% more than the pre-pandemic level in real terms.
  • The city has 1,246,989 workers making Social Security contributions, the highest number ever, representing an increase of more than 110,000 compared to 2019.
  • Unemployment stands at 8.2%, clearly below the Spanish average (10.3%).
  • The rate of entrepreneurial activity reached 9%, the highest figure in the last 21 years and above the European average.
  • Barcelona’s strategic sectors, such as digital, intensive knowledge services and cutting-edge tech, and creative sectors such as health and bio, demonstrate an occupational dynamism above the average for the economy.
  • In the first half the year, exports remained buoyant in a complex international context, while the volume of passengers at the airport and visitor numbers grew year on year.

The report also looks at the evolution of other key indicators, such as the market for offices and the internationalisation of Barcelona as a destination for congresses.

With this regular analysis, the Flaix Econòmic becomes further established as an essential tool for companies, institutions, and public chiefs who need updated information to make informed decisions on economic matters and urban development.
