Barcelona saw the incorporation of 3,433 trading companies during the period from January to May, 70% of which are in the legal form of a limited company. This number represents a year-on-year growth of 53,1%, although it is also below the pre-pandemic rate, which was 7% higher.

36% of the companies created were companies with intensive activities in knowledge and cutting-edge technology. Those that stand out are the ones dedicate to trade an repair (24.2%), followed by services to companies and professional activities (17.5%) and information and communication (8.3%).

2020 was the year with the lowest value of trading companies incorporate over the last seven years, as a result of the Covid-19 crisis. Even so, an average of 520 trading companies had been registered every month, totalling 6,242 incorporations.

As for area, 35.3% have their head office in Eixample, 20.7% in Sarrià – Sant Gervasi and 9,6% in Sant Martí. These three districts are the seat of almost two thirds of the incorporated companies. By contrast, Nou Barris, Horta-Guinardó an Sant Andreu only represent 9% of all the incorporated companies.
