Digital talent generation increases by 6% in Barcelona
The Mobile World Capital 2025 annual report shows that digital talent generation continues to grow in Barcelona, which now has 129,608 digital professionals. Figures show that 7,423 new professionals joined the labour market in 2024, an increase of 6% compared to the previous year.

Barcelona is firmly established as a city for digital talent, according to the Digital Talent Overview 2025. Since the report was first compiled in 2018, some 62,000 new specialists in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have joined the labour market.
The city follows the European trend of ICT jobs: one in four new jobs in Europe is digital. The number of ICT specialists on the continent has grown by 56.7% in the last decade, well above the overall growth in jobs (9.1%), surpassing 10.2 million professionals.
In Barcelona, the growth in ICT jobs has been six times faster than the general labour market, which grew by 0.96% in 2024.
Women’s presence reaches record levels in Barcelona
Women’s presence in ICT professions is almost 32%, with women accounting for one in three professionals joining the sector today. There has been an increase of 9 percentage points in women’s presence compared to 2018.
Women lead sectors such as digital marketing (54%), UX/UI design (44%) and sustainable computing (42%). Women’s representation is lower in sectors such as cybersecurity (20.27%), blockchain (23.68%) and web development (26.02%).
The origin of Barcelona’s digital talent
Some 32.6% of ICT professionals in Barcelona are from outside Catalonia. Barcelona is a leading destination in the European market for setting up operations. The city has attracted 42,206 digital professionals from around the world in recent years, 1,881 arriving in 2024. London is the largest exporter of talent to Barcelona, with 12%. In professions linked to digital marketing, big data and UX/UI design, most professionals are local.
During the 2023-2024 academic year, over 21,500 students were enrolled on official university degrees linked to ICT in Catalonia. Vocational training in ICT saw a record number in 2024, with 18,425 students, doubling the figure from just eight years ago.
