The seventh edition of the International Talent Monitor is now underway. This biennial initiative, originally launched in 2013 and organised by Barcelona Global, with the support of Banco Sabadell, gathers the opinions and perceptions of the community of international professionals who live and work in the city.

The survey aims to identify the strengths and weaknesses of Barcelona as a host city, with a view to generating proposals for improvement. It considers issues of interest to international residents, such as how easy it is to obtain administrative documents, housing price and availability, the diversity of education, the efficiency of public transport, the quality of the health service, and public safety, among many other factors.

Who can take part in it, and what does it involve?

The initiative targets skilled international professionals whose expertise, experience or connections benefit society, business and local industry in Barcelona. This includes researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, university students, artists, athletes and workers at international organisations.

The survey consists of two parts: the first is a 15-minute online questionnaire to gather opinions on the city and its living conditions. The second consists of 8 focus groups with 60 professionals to gather qualitative data and foster deeper discussions on relevant topics such as education, culture, investment, research and innovation, and the technological ecosystem.

How are the results used?

The conclusions of previous editions have helped drive changes in the city’s organisation, operation and legislation. Examples of successfully implemented projects include the Barcelona International Welcome Desk, tax improvements for international professionals and companies, and the simplification and digitalisation of administrative procedures, as well as a study to support the creation of an accessible international school.
