New edition of STEAMConf Barcelona

Once again, from 13 to 15 October, the STEAMConf Barcelona 2022 international learning conference returns to Barcelona, which in its eighth edition will take place in the Vèrtex building of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia-BarcelonaTech (UPC). The meeting has become an annual event for the educational community with a focus on STEAM learning, which stands for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. The event is organised by STEAM SokoTech for the Science in Society Foundation, the UPC, and the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), in collaboration with Barcelona City Council, through Barcelona Science and Universities, and the Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
In its eighth edition, the congress emphasises learning based on projects and real problems linked to authentic research through enquiry, experimentation, reasoning, and cooperation. This set of methodologies makes learning meaningful and motivating. Many of the occupations of the future will be related, to a greater or lesser degree, to STEAM disciplines, which is why institutions in Catalonia and elsewhere are working to promote interest in these specialities among students, and especially among girls and women, with the aim of closing the existing gender gap in these sectors. Within this framework, the aim of the congress is for students to become active co-creators of the human, scientific and technological process, its objectives, strategies, and values.
As a novelty, STEAMConf Barcelona 2022 marks a turning point in its trajectory with the signing of an agreement between BIST and STEAM SokoTech for Science in Society Foundation, which strengthens the interaction between the learning community and cutting-edge science and technology.
Programme
Barcelona City Council’s Barcelona Science and Universities will actively participate in the programme. In particular, it will be present at the public opening of the congress, which will be attended by Júlia Miralles de Imperial, the City Council’s delegate for Science and Universities. Mariona Cíller, director of STEAMConf Barcelona, will be joined by Josefina Antonijuan, vice-rector of Social Responsibility and Equality at the UPC, Gabby Silberman, general director of BIST, and Joan Cuevas, general director of Innovation, Digitalisation, Curriculum, and Languages at the Catalan Government’s Department of Education.
Sarah Alexander, director of Cabaret Mechanica Theater, and her unsettling automata, will open the international programme of STEAMConf Barcelona 2022. The programme includes workshops to explore, design and practice STEAM learning experiences, resources and environments. There will also be an opportunity to learn about local experiences that bring together some of the most significant STEAM projects created in Barcelona and Catalonia. International and local references that promote multidisciplinary, critical and strategic thinking, construction instead of illustration, and problem-solving through trial and error that allows questioning and exploring new solutions to challenges will be the protagonists of a series of conversations. And all participants will be able to get involved in the activation of a performance.
Registration for STEAMConf Barcelona 2022 is now open and can be accessed from this link on the website, where you will also find the complete and detailed programme of the meeting.
