An architect’s house

Casa Domènech i Estapà is on Carrer de València, next to Rambla de Catalunya. The architect Josep Domènech i Estapà designed the building, which was to be his family home.

A building with a particular style

With some very attractive windows and an exposed brick facade that was very unusual for buildings in the Eixample, the house was renovated by the designer’s son, Josep Domènech Mansana, also an architect, who fully respected the original structure.

And far removed from the prevailing Catalan style, it follows a “pre-Modernista” style with a composition inspired by classical trends more akin to the Central European Art Nouveau style. It’s really unusual.
