Luxury swimming pool and Canòdrom 

The site of the  Guinardó Civic Centre  is the former  Can Planàs farmhouse, named after its owner since 1870, Claudi Planàs i Armet, a Barcelona native who directed the Railway Company from Tarragonato Barcelona and France.

Sports is a part of the house’s past. In the 1930s, a luxury swimming pool and a dog racing track were built there, the first track in Barcelona with a mechanical hare as a lure. After the Civil War, the Falange occupied it and its sports facilities became the 'Campo de Deportes del Frente de Juventudes'. Today, this space is the pitch where F.C. Martinenc play.

But the key date in the history of this facility is 19 June 1982, the day the Guinardó Civic Centre opened, the first one in Barcelona. Even though it was supposed to be a festive day, there were protests, as a group of associations disagreed with the management model proposed by City Council, which allowed itself to choose six of the twelve directors.

After this disagreement was resolved, the civic centre has been working for over 40 years to bring culture to the neighbourhood by organising a range of activities, including the  ‘Mostra d'Art Jove Stripart’,  which has been turning the centre into a meeting point for emerging Barcelona artists since 1995.
