Designed by Adolf Ruiz Casamitjana, La Rotonda, which housed the Hotel Metropolitan in the first half of the twentieth century, has become a symbol of the Sarrià neighbourhood.

Cultural heritage

The building beautifies this corner top to bottom and is finished off by a tower topped by a dome. The building is clad in ceramic and the whole structure is meticulously decorated with polychrome pieces. La Rotonda was built to be the Hotel Metropolitan, which was open until the 1970s. It was one of the most luxurious hotels in the city. It belongs to a generation of hotels that were hubs of cultural life and of the ‘chronicle of salons’ that emerged from the gatherings, galas and balls attended by Barcelona’s select circles in the early twentieth century.
