Jardins del mirador

Located on the mountain of Montjuïc, the Mirador de l'Alcalde is surrounded by gardens that make the most of the steep mountain slope. The space is organised into areas on different levels, connected by stone steps and parterres with slight slopes that make it completely accessible.

The lower entrance is located right by the intermediate station of El Mirador, on the Montjuïc cable car and gives access to the first level of the park. From here there is an exceptional view of Barcelona and its port. On the second level there is a pond that collects water from a cascade originating on the third level. Above all this, the garden ends in a small square.

A mosaic of by Tharrats

The paving of the Mirador de l’Alcalde is part of Barcelona’s listed artistic heritage. This mosaic of 420 square metres was designed by the artist Joan-Josep Tharrats and is made of materials such as cobbles, tiles, bottle ends and chunks of concrete or iron. The gardens also have two notable sculptures: L'homenatge a Barcelona, by the sculptor Josep Maria Subirachs, and the popular Sardana, by Josep Cañas.
