The painting collection of the Palmero family

Visiting the Palmero  Museum is interesting in two ways: first, it allows you to tour through this old fifteenth-century farmhouse, a protected building; and secondly, it allows you to enjoy a fascinating painting collection, assembled by the Palmeros, a family of painters who still live in the house. Inside, there is a life-sized frescoed mural depicting the birth of the coat-of-arms of Catalonia, with Wilfred the Hairy painting the four stripes with blood from the mortal wound. You can also visit the millennia-old cave where legend has it that the bandit Joan de Serrallonga hid, and which is believed to have been connected with Collserola. Moreover, the house, known as Can Figuerola, still has original period furniture, ceramic objects and several pieces of sacred art.

A fifteenth-century farmhouse

Also known as Can Fuster, this farmhouse was the residence of the Counts of Figuerola, a countship created on 12 January 1718 by Archduke Charles of Austria, the claimant to the Spanish Crown. 

The building still has its stone façade with Gothic-inspired windows and  large tunnels and underground passageways. However, with the urbanisation of the area around it, the estate lost some of its farmlands.

The house was saved from demolition when it was bought by the painter Alfredo Palmero de Gregorio (1901-1991), who renovated it and later turned it into the Palmero Art Museum.
