The park’s origins

The former Casa de les Altures, built in the late 19th century and the home of the chairman of the Barcelona Water Company, was surrounded by 15,000 square metres of land belonging to several estates that had been expropriated so water tanks could be built there. Part of the land was used as the house’s garden and another as nurseries for various species of plant and tree.

The estate was in a poor state of repair during the early 1970s, so the Joan Maragall Residents Association reclaimed it for the neighbourhood. Finally, two hectares were restored as a public park which opened as Les Aigües Park.

Fruit and ornamental trees

The vegetation that grows in the park includes a great variety of fruit trees, such as orange and fig trees that are exceptional for the age and textures of their trunks. There are also large groups of cypresses, yuccas and laurels and one of the largest ombus in Barcelona.
