A farmhouse from the countship of Barcelona

Even though we are not sure of the exact date when it was built, some studies pinpoint it inthe twelfth century. In the sixteenth century, the Government of Catalonia newspaper mentions it using the name of Torre de la Verge Maria, and the coat-of-arms over the main doorway indicates its past as a property of the countship of Barcelona. Always associated with the agricultural life in Sant Martí de Provençals, the house still stands, although it is worse for the wear.

The Torre del Fang, which dates back to the Middle Ages, was built on the high road that led from Portal Nou in Barcelona's walls to the towns of Sant Martí de Provençals and Sant Andreu de Palomar. During the siege of Barcelona in 1713 and 1714, the Bourbon troops bombarded Barcelona from the house.

The house marked by the railway

The construction of the railway in the mid-nineteenth century forced the Torre del Fang to leave behind its agricultural past as it was soon turned into a factory that made construction materials. The area around the Torre del Fang is being re-urbanised as a gateway to the future Parc del Camí Comtal, also known as the linear park, a huge green zone four kilometres long above the rails between Sant Andreu and La Sagrera.
