Privileged geographical location
Barcelona is on the Mediterranean coast, in the north east of the Iberian Peninsula. It is the capital of Catalonia, one of the autonomous regions of the Spanish state, and the second-most important city in Spain.
Sea and mountains
The city lies between two deltas, from the Besòs river in the north east and the Llobregat river in the south east. It is surrounded by the Collserola mountain range, a huge green lung of 8,000 hectares, the highest point of which is the mountain of Tibidabo (516 metres).
The city has nearly five kilometres of beaches with calm, safe and warm waters, making it a unique place to enjoy the sea and nautical sports.
Global hub
Barcelona’s exceptional geographical location and infrastructures make it a city well connected with the rest of the world. It has one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean, a high-speed rail link with the most important cities in the Iberian Peninsula and an international airport connecting it with major world capitals.
The city extends towards the metropolitan area in a dense urban layout that makes it one of the most highly populated metropolises in the European Union.
Ten districts
Barcelona is divided into ten districts, each with its own character. These correspond to the various geographical realities that have come to make up the current city: Ciutat Vella, L’Eixample, Sants-Montjuïc, Sarrià - Sant Gervasi, Les Corts, Gràcia, Sant Andreu, Horta-Guinardó, Nou Barris and Sant Martí.

- Barcelona's Beaches
Barcelona is a city that faces the sea, with almost five kilometres of beaches from Sant Sebastià to Llevant. All of them have facilities for bathers and lots of them have places for playing sports like table tennis and volleyball.
- Parc de Collserola
The city’s green lung, a privileged location within reach of Barcelona’s residents. More than 8,000 hectares of natural space, dominated by woodland of great biological diversity.
- Parc de Montjuïc
An essential visit, Montjuïc Park occupies most of the hill overlooking the port, and it is full of green areas and gardens, museums and cultural facilities, sports facilities and Olympic installations. Montjuïc tells us about the history and life of a mountain that has marked Barcelona's personality.
- Parc Fluvial del Besòs
This natural park consists of 9 kilometres of the Besòs River, from its confluence with the Ripoll River to the sea. It is one of the most important natural areas in Barcelona's metropolitan area and it is a great place for a stroll or for cycling.
