Torre Castanyer is a discreetly camouflaged stately home in the Sant Gervasi neighbourhood, between Plaça de John F. Kennedy and Plaça de la Bonanova.

Cultural heritage

The collectivisations that took place during the Civil War also affected the properties of the wealthy and the nobility; the Duchess of Moragas’ villa became the property of the provisional Government of Catalonia. Antonio Machado found refuge here after his stay in the Hotel Majestic, and it was here that he continued to write for La Vanguardia newspaper. The works he wrote there were to be his last, because immediately after leaving the villa in January 1939, he set off into exile and died a month later in Cotlliure.
