A historical farmhouse

Built on the remains of a medieval tower that was owned by the Baron of Creixell, the Can Basté masia [farmhouse] was already part of the old village of Santa Eulàlia de Vilapicina in the seventeenth century, and the historic site in Carrer de Pere d’Artés still stands to this day. The masia is named after the family that owned it in the eighteenth century, and they renovated and extended it, giving it the stately appearance it still has today. It is a striking detached building with an etched façade and a bridge that connects it to the church of Santa Eulàlia de Vilapicina.

The masia had several other owners until it became a public civic centre in 1995. Having been witness to a past of which little remains today, its historic value and the fact that is open to all make this building one of the most iconic and most beloved in the district.

Traces of yesterday

Can Basté is one of the few masias in Nou Barris to have survived the passage of time. When Barcelona City Council commissioned its restoration in 1991, archaeological excavations were carried out and this led to the discovery of a number of important medieval elements including a notable square-mouth silo.

Listed as a site of local cultural interest and converted into a civic centre, today Can Basté plays a major role in the cultural and local life of the area, and it is a welcoming place that is open to all.
