The Jardins de Magalí, now a park full of palm trees surrounded by blocks of flats, used to be the site of Barça’s old ground, which grew with the club.

  • Urban spaces

The former Camp de les Corts was the FC Barcelona stadium between 1922 and 1957. In fact, it is the second stadium in the club’s history, prior to Camp Nou, and after the stadium in Carrer Indústria. Located on the former lands of Can Guerra, surrounded by Carrer Numancia, Travessera de les Corts, Vallespir and Marqués de Sentmenat, the stadium witnessed the club’s growth and consolidation. Designed by the architects Santiago Mestres and Josep Alemany, the pitch measured 101 m x 62 me.

The Les Corts stadium’s seating capacity grew from its original 25,000 to 60,000 spectators over its last few years. It was given an outstanding concrete canopy in 1943, designed by Eduardo Torroja. The club’s fans became known as ‘culés’ because of the way the stands were set, making sitting spectators visible from the street.

With the move to Camp Nou, the old ground was demolished and made way for the construction of the large housing blocks which currently stand on the site, next to the peaceful and romantic Jardins de Magalí —previously known as the Jardins de les Infantes—, where we can find a number of singular trees. The gardens also include a children’s play area, a table-tennis area, petanque courts and a basketball court
