The  Polvorí (Powder Magazine) 

The Polvorí is a rectangular building with walls reinforced by buttresses. It has a double-pitched roof supported by six columns. The building was destroyed by Napoleon’s army in the 19th century, when the castle was abandoned. It was subsequently rebuilt around 1849, regaining its original form and being enclosed by a wall with a sentry box. Having fallen into disuse and been abandoned, it was handed over in 2005 to Teatro de los Sentidos, a company of actors and artists who explore theatre from a sensory perspective, led by Colombian director Enrique Vargas. However, this building, which is listed as an Asset of Local Cultural Interest, has been closed since 2021, pending restoration.

The  Cos de Guàrdia (Guardhouse)

Also enclosed by a wall and a sentry box, the Cos de Guàrdia contains a more recent building and a courtyard, which have been made available to the Polvorí Residents’ Association. The association represents the residents of the La Marina neighbourhood, which takes its name from these former military facilities, where gunpowder was stored and this side of Montjuïc was kept under surveillance. The Cos de Guàrdia consisted of an inner structure with stone walls and a hipped tiled roof, and an arcaded porch.                                                                      Like the powder magazine, it was enclosed by a wall.
